Secure Your Digital Future.
Start Here.
Welcome to the Trezor family. This guide will walk you through initializing your device at Trezor.io/start, installing the Trezor Suite, and securing your assets with the world's first hardware wallet.
What is Trezor.io/start?
Trezor.io/start is your gateway to complete financial independence. It is the official landing page designed to help new users initialize their Trezor hardware wallets securely. Whether you have purchased the Trezor Model T, Trezor Model One, or the new Trezor Safe 3, the journey begins here.
A hardware wallet like Trezor keeps your private keys offline, isolating them from internet-connected devices that are vulnerable to hacks, malware, and phishing attacks. By using Trezor Suite, you gain a user-friendly interface to manage your portfolio, exchange assets, and track performance without ever compromising security.
Setting Up Your Device via Trezor.io/start
Follow these precise steps to ensure your device is authentic and your funds remain secure.
Unboxing & Inspection
Before you even plug in your device, inspect the packaging. Trezor devices come with tamper-evident holographic seals. If the seal is broken, missing, or looks different from the examples on the official website, do not use the device. Contact support immediately. This physical security check is your first line of defense.
Connect to Trezor.io/start
Use the USB cable provided in the box to connect your Trezor to your computer. Open your browser and navigate to trezor.io/start. This is the only official setup page. Avoid clicking on ads in search results to prevent phishing attempts.
Install Trezor Suite
The website will prompt you to download Trezor Suite, the desktop application that interfaces with your device. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, the Suite provides a secure environment for wallet management. Install and open the application.
Firmware Installation
Your Trezor device ships without firmware installed to ensure you always have the latest, most secure version. Trezor Suite will detect your device and ask to install the firmware. Confirm the installation on your device screen.
Create New Wallet
Once the firmware is ready, select "Create New Wallet". If you are recovering an old wallet, you would choose "Recover Wallet" instead. For new users, creating a fresh wallet generates a brand new set of private keys offline.
The Backup (Crucial)
Your device will generate a Recovery Seed—a list of 12 to 24 words. Write these down on the provided recovery cards. Never take a photo of it,never type it into a computer, and never upload it to the cloud. This seed is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
Uncompromising Security
Why is Trezor the gold standard? It's not just about hardware; it's about a philosophy of transparency and verification.
- Open Source: The code is public. Security researchers worldwide audit it constantly, ensuring no backdoors exist.
- Offline Keys: Your private keys never leave the device. Even if your computer is infected with malware, your keys remain isolated.
- PIN & Passphrase: A PIN protects against unauthorized physical access, while an optional passphrase acts as a "25th seed word" for plausible deniability.
